Social, cultural, and gender history of modern China; Sino-French cultural relations; Chinese educational thought and practice; Chinese cinema and modernity.Currently completing a monograph, entitled The Sino-French Connection: Chinese Workers in World War One France and the Chinese Francophile ‘Lobby’
